The Sage's Land – Rishikesh


Rishikesh is a spiritual town situated about 25kms from Haridwar at the meeting point of Holy rivers Ganga and Chandrabhaga. As per the legend the name of the place was kept on the name of "God Hrishikesh". Rishikesh is situated at an elevation of about 355 meters covering an approximate area of 11 square kilometers.
Rishikesh is the place where Chardham Dham piligrimage starts. The place is a favorite place for Sages and Mahatamas for Yoga and meditation etc. An International Yoga Week is also organized here in the month of February every year for which people from all around the world visit the place. Rishikesh is also a famous trekking destination.

Triveni Ghat
Triveni is the meeting point of Holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. Devotees visit this place to take a holy dip in the rivers and also take part in the religious ceremonies like Arti and Pooja.

Lakshman Jhoola
The suspension bridge across the river Ganga is situated at a distance about of 6kms from Rishikesh towards the holy places Badrinath and Kedarnath. As per the legends Lakshman the brother of God Rama crossed the bridge on a jute rope. This is the reason the bridge is called Lakshman Jhoola. The jute rope was replaced by a bridge in the year 1929.

Shivanand Jhoola
The Jhoola is also famous with the name of Ram Jhoola. The Jhoola is a bridge between Shivanand Ashram and the Swarga Ashram. This is one of the famous places of Rishikesh.

Kaudiala
Kaudiala is situated at an altitude of 390meters and is about 36kms from Rishikesh. Kaudiala is a rafting camp for river rafters and all the facilities and equipments are being provided by the authorities here. The place is also famous for rock climbing and trekking facilities.

Best time to visit


Rishikesh can be visited round the year as the climate of the place is pleasant round the year.

Clothes


Cottons for summer and woolen clothes for winter are recommended.

Accommodation Facilities


Rishikesh is having many private Hotels and Dharamshalas along with Government Rest Houses. Visitors can stay comfortably here at reasonable expenses.
