Chopta – Picturesque place in Gharwal region
Chopta is the most picturesque place in the entire Garhwal region. Chopta is situated at a high altitude of about 2500 meters above sea level on the Gopeshwar – Ukhimath road about 40kms from Gopeshwar. The place is one of the most beautiful places of Garhwal but many of the tourists through this place but don't visit the place as they are not aware of the place and its beauty. The winters here are very beautiful as almost everything in the region is covered with snow. The view of the Himalayas from Chopta is fascinating. Chopta is a lush green area surrounded by dense oak forest. There is an ancient temple called Tungnath. Visitors can go to the temple and can get the blessings of the God. The other place where one can move to Nirvana is Raj bungalow in Dugalbitta. The cane chair located at the front of the bungalow is treated to be path to Nirvana. Chopta is part of a protected sanctuary to protect deodars, pines, rhododendrons and oaks.
Best time to visit
The place can be visited any time during the year. The climate of the place is pleasant round the year but in winters there may be snow and one should be well prepared for the same.
The languages spoken here are Garhwali, Hindi and English.
Cotton and woolen clothes are recommended for summer and heavy woolens for winters.
Many private hotels are there at Chopta. Also tourist rest house is situated here. Visitors can stay here at reasonable rates comfortably.

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant.
The nearest railway station is Rishikesh which is about 300kms from here.
Almost every part of the state is well connected to roads and so is Chopta.
Other places to visit near Chopta
Dogalbitta is about 10kms from Chopta by raod. The other option to visit Dogalbitta is about 4km trekking. The place is famous for its natural beauty. One can stay here in the PWD rest house.
The place is about 3kms uphill from Chopta. Tungnath is the highest Hindu shrines in the Himalayas. Here the arm of Lord Shiva is worshiped. Tungnath peak is the source of three springs which collectively forms a river known as Akashakmini.
Gopeshwar is the district headquater of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Famous Gopinath temple is situated here. The place is the gateway to the famous Rudranath trek. Gopeshwar is situated at an altitude of about 1555 meters.
The valley is situated at a very high elevation of 13250 feet. The view here is breathtaking. From here one can walk to the northern parts of Sikkim. From here one can also go to Muguthang through an adventurous trek which is located at even more altitude of 15400 feet. The place is worth a visit. The beauty, the climate, the view, the surroundings here are amazing.
