Almora – An Ancient Town
Almora is an ancient and beautiful town and one of the best hill stations of Uttarakhand. The Almora town is situated on a horse saddle shaped mountain ridge. The western part of the ridge is called Selifat and the eastern portion of the ridge is called Talifat. Almora also houses some health resorts like Ranikhet once a British Cantonment.
The place is a beautiful hill station. One should visit Almora at least once in his lifetime to see the real beauty Almora is offering. Almora is situated at an elevation of about 1650 meters from the sea level covering an area of about 12 square kilometres.

The view from here is very fascinating. Almost every mountain of the Himalayan range can be seen from here like stairs of mountains. The stone slates on houses of the villages are very beautiful. The stairs like fields are very beautiful. The place offers panoramic views everywhere.
History of Almora
Almora is a historic town. The place was established Baichaledo a Katyuri King. The king donated a major part of his property to a gujrati Brahamin Shri Chand Tiwari. Later the Almora town was founded by Kalyan Chand in the year 1560 when Chand kingdom was formed in Baramandal. Inn those days the place was called Rajapur. The place has a historic importance.
Other places to visit in Almora
The place is famous for prehistoric rock paintings. The place is situated at a distance of about 20kms from Almora on the banks of river Suyal. There are paintings of animals, human beings and dancers etc in the rock. These paintings are believed to be from bronze/stone age.
Phulseema and Pharkanauli
These places are about 4kms from Almora. These places are also famous for rock paintings specially of dancing postures. The scene here is very beautiful. One can not forget the memories of these masterpieces.

The climate of Almora is pleasant most of the times but the winters here are very cold.

The place can be visited anytime during the year but the best time to visit is from March to June and September to November every year.

The nearest Airport is Pant Nagar which is about 125kms form Almora.
The nearest railway station is Kathgodam which is about 90kms from here.
